Lifesaving Instructor
Share your experience and communicate your passion for lifesaving by becoming a Lifesaving Instructor. You will train future lifeguards by teaching them first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the various techniques and skills required in lifesaving. A Lifesaving Instructor can teach the following awards: Swim Patrol (Rookie, Ranger, Star), Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, Lifesaving Fitness, Distinction, along with several other courses.
Certification enabling individuals who complete the training to teach rescue principles and techniques to participants receiving lifeguard training. Prerequisites apply: to hold a current Bronze Cross award and minimum age is 16 years-old.
AGE
16 years+
PREREQUISITE
28-hour course: must hold current National Lifeguard certification and be 16 years old.
34-hour course: must hold current Bronze Cross certification and be 16 years old.
LIFESAVING INSTRUCTOR LEVEL
This certification enables individuals who complete the training to teach rescue principles and techniques to participants receiving lifeguard training.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Instructional strategies and factors that influence learning.
Teaching and assessment of lifeguarding skills and techniques, as well as CPR and First Aid techniques.
EVALUATION AND CERTIFICATION
Students must attend a minimum of 90% of class hours. If a student plans on not fully attending a course while still meeting the required minimum attendance percentage, they must inform the instructor and are responsible for catching up on any material missed during their absence.
Students are evaluated by a certified Lifesaving Instructor and Lifesaving Examiner. Certification is awarded upon successful completion of in-class evaluations and of the practical exam, and is valid for 24 months.
CERTIFICATION
It is valid for 2 years if used for work purposes, or 4 years to maintain their Lifesaving Instructor file active.
LIFESAVING INSTRUCTOR RECERTIFICATION
Available every 2 years.
